While it seems like a no brainer for Korea’s mobile phone operators are still trying to find a strategy for the iPhone:

Apple is requesting that Korean operators purchase over 1 million iPhones over the next three years if they decide to import the product, industry sources say. If both SKT and KT import the iPhone, this will total 2 million units. As one iPhone is priced in the $600 to $700 range, this would equal around 2 trillion won ($1.6 billion) worth of iPhones at least.

Sony Ericsson recently launched their Xperia X1 and managed a minor miracle in Korea by having permission to retain the WiFi functionality on the phone:

Sony Ericsson, the world's No.5 mobile-phone maker, has been a rare offshore player that has managed to be relevant. The company sold nearly 24,000 units of its high-end multifunctional phone, the Xperia X1, through wireless carrier SK Telecom over a span of just three months, despite starting out with a hefty price tag north of 800,000 won (about $640).
